Vascular surgery covers the arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels throughout the body, everywhere except the heart itself and the vessels inside the brain. In practice that ranges from a short office procedure on a leg vein to open repair of a major artery.
Almost everything starts the same way: your history, an examination, and a duplex ultrasound in our own vascular lab. More detailed imaging is added when we are planning an intervention rather than ordered by default.
Dr. Caruso is trained in both traditional open surgery and minimally invasive endovascular technique. Many patients are treated through a small puncture under local anesthetic and go home the same day. Open repair is used where it is the more durable answer for your anatomy.
